After the death of the childless Scottish king, unrest prevails in late 13th-century Scotland. King Edward I of England takes advantage of the Scottish nobility´s disunity to conquer the land, but he cannot establish lasting control. William Wallace, born during this time, is raised by his uncle after losing his family, who provides him with education and martial training. Wallace returns as a peaceful man, but after his wife is murdered by English soldiers, he vows revenge and fights for Scotland´s freedom.
